Kentucky State Police (KSP) have arrested two men in connection with a home invasion robbery of an Ohio County woman.

On May 11, a woman from Rockport reported to authorities she was tied up in her own home and robbed at knife point. The woman told the KSP a clean-cut man knocked on her back door and asked to use her phone due to an emergency. She allowed the suspect into her home.

He then brandished a large knife and threatened her life if she didn't produce money. The suspect ordered her into another room where he restrained her in a chair using duct tape. He then rummaged throughout her home and left with a undermined amount of cash.

According to a press release from the KSP, Detective Matt Wise charged two men in connection with the robbery of the Rockport woman.

[caption id="attachment_28177" align="alignright" width="149"]Dustin C. Beck Dustin C. Beck[/caption]

The KSP charged Dustin C. Beck, 34, of Louisville, with first degree robbery, first degree burglary and kidnapping. Beck, who was being held in the Louisville Metro Correctional Facility on unrelated charges, was officially charged yesterday evening. All three charges are felonies and he is being held at said facility.

Evidence located inside the residence by detectives linked Beck to the crime which led to his arrest.

Detectives also charged Allen Herald, Jr., 35, of Greenville, with the same charges. Detectives say Herald acted as Beck's transport to and from the crime scene. Herald, Jr. is being held in the Ohio County Detention Center in Hartford.

The investigation is still ongoing.

OC Sheriff’s Dept. warning of IRS Phone Scam

The Ohio County Sheriff's Department (OCSD) posted a warning on its Facebook page today about the IRS Phone Scam.  People claiming to be IRS employees are calling taxpayers and telling them they owe money to the IRS. The OCSD reported "many in the county" have received these calls. Below is the information provided by the OCSD and the IRS Website. The IRS Phone Scam continues. Please share this with your family and friends. Talk to your elderly relatives and neighbors about it. Spread the word. The following was taken from the IRS website:
IRS-Impersonation Telephone Scam An aggressive and sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, has been making the rounds throughout the country. Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. They may know a lot about their targets, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling. Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting. Or, victims may be told they have a refund due to try to trick them into sharing private information. If the phone isn't answered, the scammers often leave an “urgent” callback request. Note that the IRS will NEVER: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

Pictured L-to-R: David Morris, Morris and Shannon Morris.[/caption] Ohio County High’s Nate Morris became the fourth Eagle baseball player to accept a scholarship offer this season when he signed with Berea College Thursday afternoon. Morris’ signing was witnessed by family members, teammates, friends, and media in OCHS’ Media Center. Morris — who also was a starter at quarterback on OCHS’ football team and at forward on the Eagle basketball squad this year — is the son of David Morris and Shannan Morris. Playing leftfield this season, Morris helped Bobby Wise’s team to a solid 21-11 record, batting .289 with an on-base percentage of .340. He scored 15 runs while driving in a dozen, and stole eight bases on ten attempts. His fielding percentage was a good .939, handling 31-of-33 chances without an error. When asked about his decision, Morris said had visited Berea’s campus and was impressed with “hometown feeling.” He said he was given a “good chance” to see significant outfield playing time as a freshman with Mountaineers. Todd Weaver’s baseball team finished with a 12-26 record for the ‘14-‘15 season, and graduates seven seniors including former OCHS standout catcher Jake Taylor. Morris also mentioned Berea’s reputation as one of the top 100 academic schools in the United States. He plans to pursue a pre-Physical Therapy program there. “I’d like to thank Coach Wise and all my high school coaches for helping me get this far,” Morris said. “And, of course, I’d like to thank my family for all their support.” When asked his feelings on the signing, Wise said, “I congratulate Nate on signing with Berea. I think he has the tools to be successful there.” Formerly an NAIA school, Berea College is currently transitioning into a NCAA Division III school and are not officially affiliated with any conference at this time.

Teammate Zach Farris signed with St. Catharine College in March. Shaffer wrestled for three seasons for Eagle coach David Miller, finishing fourth in the 2015 KHSAA State Championships in the 285-pound class. He compiled an outstanding 47-5 mark this year. He also qualified for the state meet as a junior, going 1-2 at state. At OCHS’ recent wrestling banquet, Shaffer took home four individual awards: Bellator Noster, King Pin, Heart Attack, and co-GPGBM with teammate B.J. Miller. While at OCHS, Shaffer was also a three-year starter on the Eagle football squad. Luke is the son of Clyde and Angie Shaffer. At the signing in OCHS’ Media Center, Coach Miller commented, “We’re very proud of Luke.” Lindsey Wilson, located in Columbia, Ky., is an NAIA school affiliated with the Mid-South Conference. The Blue Raiders, who were ranked as high as second in the nation, won this year’s NAIA East Region Qualifier tournament. In all, LWC sent 10 wrestlers to the NAIA National Championships in March where they finished third in a field of 43 teams represented.
