Like many counties across the state of Kentucky, and even the nation, the Ohio County Cooperative Extension Office celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act on Thursday in Hartford. The Smith-Lever Act of 1914 was the piece of legislation that established the cooperative extension services connected to the land-grant universities in the United States. In Ohio County's case, the University of Kentucky. The purpose of extension services was to help educate people about current developments in agriculture, home economics, 4-H, etc. Ohio County's Cooperative Extension Office celebration included a short program with judge-executive David Johnston and Hartford mayor Charlotte Hendricks speaking. The program ended with cupcakes being distributed to all who attended and 100 candles being blown out. [gallery link="file" ids="17840,17841,17842"]
