Sara G. Taylor has been hired as Ohio County High's new volleyball coach, according to OCHS athletic director Charles Patton. The new coach served as assistant coach to Becky Taylor last season.
Sara Taylor, formerly Sara Sutherlin, is a 2003 graduate of OCHS where she played tennis and basketball and was a cheerleader before volleyball was started in the fall of 2001. She played volleyball that year and as a senior when she was named team captain as well as team captain for tennis.
During her senior year, she signed a letter-of-intent to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College on a tennis scholarship. But her collegiate career ended after marrying Jake Taylor, who was in the Air Force. She completed her BS degree in Mathematics and Science at Arkansas State University, near where her husband was stationed in Little Rock.
She was hired this school year to teach Algebra I at OCHS as well as assist with the volleyball program. She will be assisted in the 2014 season by Chelsea Atherton, a Spanish teacher at OCHS, who played volleyball at McLean County High School. It is hoped a freshman coach can also be hired.
On her hiring, Taylor said, "It has always been my dream to come back to Ohio County and teach and coach...I am very excited and honored to be the new head coach...We had a very strong team last year and (lost) some valuable seniors, but I look forward to new girls coming out and previous players to step up and take leadership."
Becky Taylor resigned following the 2013 season after piloting the Lady Eagles for the past six years, winning district championships in 2010 and 2011, with season records of 17-18 and 14-16, respectively. Ohio County has finished as district runner-up the past two seasons, finishing with a 13-22 record last year.
