Muhlenberg County’s Lady Mustangs fired in 10 three-point baskets Friday night to help hold off a late-charging Ohio County High team 53-48. Friday’s game was the opener of a girl-boy varsity doubleheader which ended 10th District play for both OCHS teams.
The Lady Mustangs took a 12-6 lead after one quarter, with Raegan Blackburn knocking down two 3-pointers and Bailee Harney another. At halftime, the visitors had inched out to a 21-14 advantage.
Blackburn, MaKayla Sampson, and Kerry Vincent hit 3-pointers as MCHS stretched their lead to 37-27. Ohio County trailed by 18 points, 47-29, early in the fourth quarter before staging a late rally, outscoring their guests 19-6 to cut the final margin to five. Muhlenberg County beat the local girls 71-41 in their first meeting Dec. 16 at Greenville.
OCHS’ Allison Druin topped all scorers and rebounders with 23 points and 16 rebounds while teammate Tate Parker also had a double-double with 10 each. Blackburn’s 21 points paced the winners. Ohio County had a 51-31 edge in rebounding in the loss but committed 20 turnovers.
