Highway maintenance crews in the 11 counties of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 headquartered at Madisonville are prepared to respond to an area of snow showers, with occasional bands of intense snowfall, moving across the region at this hour and expected to continue into the night.
The forecast includes accumulation of about ½ inch, with spotty areas of heavier snow possible.
All crews will keep about 5 employees on duty tonight to be available to respond quickly to potential trouble spots. Additional personnel will be called in as needed.
The KYTC District 2 Snow & Ice Team will man the operations center and be monitoring the snowfall to determine an appropriate response level.
The snow is expected to move out of the District 2 region by about 10 p.m.
Motorists are asked to carefully monitor local news media and the National Weather Service for regular weather updates. Motorists should also be aware of locally changing highway conditions and adjust driving speeds accordingly.
