Friday’s loss dropped the Eagles to 0-8 on the year and 0-3 versus district foes while the Tigers improved to 6-2 and a perfect 3-0 in district standings. Hopkinsville drew first blood, taking a 7-0 lead but Ohio County came right back, scoring on a Nate Morris to Brice Phelps touchdown toss. The point-after-touchdown try failed, leaving OCHS down 7-6. That was the score well into the second quarter when the Tigers erupted for their late touchdowns. Houston Ray kicked two PATs and the Tigers were also successful on an Ameer Love two-point conversion run to carry a 29-6 lead into halftime. Hopkinsville got rolling in the second half, building their lead to 50-6 and triggering a running-clock. Ohio County finished the scoring on another Morris-to-Phelps pass with Morris running for a two-point conversion to end the scoring. Despite the loss, Morris had a record-setting night, completing 26 passes to eclipse the former single-game mark of 23. Rakeem Chambers led HHS with three touchdowns on pass receptions while Zach Atkins rushed for two scores. Tyler Graham threw two touchdown passes and also caught one as backup quarterback Jalen Johnson had two TDs on two passing attempts. Nik Hatcher added another Tiger score while Houston Ray kicked six PATs. In postgame comments, OCHS head coach Jody Ashby said, “Our performance was much better than it was last week(at Graves County). We played relatively well for most of the first half and in spots throughout the remainder of the contest...Collectively, the receivers had their best game of the year. The defensive front did a good job of defending the run the run game...we had less missed assignments...We are competing better against speed than we did earlier in the season. We are making more plays in all phases of the game.” “(But) we have to reduce the number of penalties and explosive plays against us. We have to continue to make improvements in the basics of the game: blocking and tackling.” Total yardage — HHS 555, OC 342 Rushing — HHS 30/277, OC 25/94 Passing — HHS 10/13/278, OC 26/39/248 Rushing — HHS - Atkins 11/102, Love 8/78, Graham 5/53, Brown 4/28, Chambers 2/16; OC - Phelps 15/93, Inglis 1/9, Morris 9/-8 Passing — HHS - Graham 8/11/184, Johnson 2/2/94; OC - Morris 26/39/248 Receiving — HHS - Chambers 3/124, Graham 1/70, Ellis 3/51, Green 2/27, Brown 1/6; OC - Burgess 6/84, Griffin 8/73, Phelps 7/51, Miller 2/5. Be a friend on the court to our volunteer firemen and emergency management teams that keep our county and its citizens safe. 6. [caption id="attachment_19509" align="alignright" width="215"]Jason Bullock Jason Bullock[/caption] Submitted by Jason Bullock, Democratic incumbent Second District Magistrate

I, Jason Wayne Bullock, announce my candidacy for Beaver Dam Second District Magistrate. Serving the good people of the Second District for the past eight years has been an honor, and I humbly ask for your support to continue serving as your magistrate.

Ohio County has been my home for 37 years -- the past 20 years in Beaver Dam. My wife, Kara, and I never considered starting our family and raising our children Cole, Addison, and Colin anywhere else.

I learned the importance of faith, the value of community and the necessity of hard work from my parents, Wayne and Ruth (Ford) Bullock of Beaver Dam. Those values where only reinforced by Kara’s parents, Jerry and Judy (Tichenor) Bevil of Hartford.

Kara and I consider ourselves very lucky to be able to build a life in the same familiar place where generations of our families are rooted. Currently, Kara serves as the County Assistant Superintendent with the Ohio County Board of Education, and I have had the privilege of working with the outstanding students, parents, and educators at Beaver Dam Elementary as their Family Resource Coordinator. Working daily with our bright kids constantly reminds me why preparing them for future success will always be one of the fiscal court’s most  sacred responsibilities!

Helping provide a bright future for our kids will always be my top priority!

While we certainly celebrate when one of our own finds success outside of our own communities, I have a vision for a robust local economy so that more folks who want to build their lives can find jobs close to home or start their own successful businesses. The current fiscal court started the OCEDA Foundation in order to strengthen local economic development efforts. If elected, I will work hard to continue our momentum while seizing every opportunity to help private employers add good jobs with good pay.

Perhaps the most important lesson I’ve learned is that everything we do as a community is connected to everything else we do. Good jobs are connected to creating communities where employers want to live. Things like good roads, clean roadways, great recreational facilities, strong schools, and feeling safe in our homes are every bit as important as more traditional economic concerns when it comes to competing with surrounding areas for a company to build a new plant in our county.

As your magistrate, I will listen to everyone’s good ideas and work hard to implement those that have the best chance to make Ohio County even better, even stronger, and even more beautiful than it is today!

I love serving the people of the Second District and Ohio County, and I ask you for your vote and your continued support. Please contact me anytime to let me know what’s most important to you. I can be reached by phone at 256-5506, by sending an email to jason.bullock@ohio.kyschools.us, or just message me on Facebook.

The Book of Proverbs says that without a vision, the people will perish. I know you have a vision and want great things for Ohio County just like I do. Working together toward a common vision, we will see great things continue to happen in our communities!                                                          Thank You, Jason W. Bullock

I feel it is important to be involved and aware of their needs, and will continue these actions if elected. Both the Lady Mustangs (20-11) and Lady Eagles (9-20) will be in the field of next week’s Third Region Volleyball Tournament, also being played at the OCHS gym. The Lady Mustangs took the first set by a score of 25-20, but the Lady Eagles then rallied to the take the second by a score of 25-9. Muhlenberg won the third set 25-18, but then saw the host team roar back to win the fourth by a 25-13 margin. The fifth set was close all the way, before Muhlenberg County eked out a 15-13 decision. At the end, with two strong hitters in the back row, we began to play too safe. In the last time out...I told them they needed to play smart and aggressive. But, in the end, we just fell short.” Statistical leaders for the Lady Eagles in Tuesday’s match were: Morgan Marksberry (34 digs, 18 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace, 1 assist), Marci Dant(29 digs, 8 kills, 1 assist), Allissa Wortham(33 digs, 4 aces), Savanna Mattingly (25 assists, 7 digs, 2 aces), Lauren Ford (16 digs, 2 aces, 2 assists, 1 kill), Nealey Batts (9 digs, 2 aces), Bria Morse (3 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs), Brooklyn Moore(2 assists). “Our season is not over though,” Taylor continued, “we have to pick ourselves up and fix the areas that we were weak in. Winning is great, but when we lose, it gives us the opportunity to take a step back and really focus on what we need to do to be successful.” Following Tuesday’s title tilt, All-District Team and District All-Academic awards were recognized. Lauren Ford was OCHS’ All-Academic pick while Morgan Marksberry and Marci Dant were named to the All-District Team.
