Scenes from the movie "Rain Man" were filmed at the St. Anne Convent in Campbell County, Kentucky, scenes for the movie Secretariat were filmed in Lexington, scenes from "A League of Their Own" were filmed in Henderson, and scenes from John Wayne's "How The West Was Won" were filmed in Smithland, Kentucky. Even scenes from the movie "The Kentuckian" were filmed in Ohio County. Earlier this year, the Kentucky State Legislature passed HB340, which enhanced the incentives for movie and television production companies to film in Kentucky. With the passing of HB340, Kentucky will become more competitive with other states when it comes to drawing outside film projects. Because of this, Kentucky State Tourism is asking all counties to prepare a portfolio to "Show what your county has to offer." The state is looking for possible film locations, such as barns, farms, alleys, old empty buildings, office space, dirt roads, unusual landscape, homes, anything that could fit into a movie. One specific thing mentioned was a barn or building that could be burned down. The production crews are seeking locations such as old barns, historical homes or buildings, old warehouses or landscape scenes of area rivers or places like Rochester Dam. The film companies have suggested they are seeking landmarks that are unique and have character.
Ohio County Tourism needs your help in compiling the county's portfolio. Please take photographs of your special interest property and send them along with your contact information via Facebook message to the Ohio County Tourism Facebook Page. For more information please contact the Ohio County Tourism Commission at 270-298-0036 or by email at OhioCountyTour@gmail.com. Remember, the production crews are looking for unique landmarks, buildings and landscapes. Things you'll only find in Ohio County.  The Kentucky Film Office website can be found at: filmoffice.ky.gov.
