School board hires new principals, recognizes retirees

As the new school year began yesterday, the Ohio County School Board welcomed two new principals to the school system and recognized those who retired last year.

The Board of Education was left with an opening for principal at both Fordsville Elementary and Horse Branch Elementary as the new school year drew near.

The principal job at Fordsville Elementary came open after, former principal, Jackie McClure resigned to take a teaching position.

The Board of Education hired Dwayne Bishop as the new principal of Fordsville Elementary. Bishop is an Ohio County native.

An opening for principal at Horse Branch Elementary came about when, former principal, Jeff Martin resigned to take a position at the Central Office of the Board of Education.

During the July 25 Ohio County School Board meeting, schools superintendent Scott Lewis announced Timothy Swift would be the new principal at Horse Branch Elementary. Lewis said Swift lived in Grayson County and taught in Butler County for many years.

Also at the July 25 school board meeting, Lewis and the school board recognized the school system’s 2012-2013 retirees.

There was a reception for the retirees before the school board meeting. Refreshments and punch were served to the retirees and their families.

During the meeting, Lewis presented each retiree who was present with a plaque recognizing their years of service.

The retirees in attendance were, Mona Farmer, Sheila Witten, Patricia Fleener, Bennie Sandefur, Janie Burgess, Rhonda Travis, Terry Coleman, Martha Coppage.

The retirees who were not in attendance were, Sandy Guerrero, Bruce Evans, Linda Maden, Carolyn Whittaker, Ann Nance, Kathy Phelps, Mary Jacqueline Taylor, Yvonne Richards, Margaret Short, and Lori Baker.
