Zach Johnson's sacrifice fly drove home Brice Phelps with the only run Tuesday as the Ohio County Eagles edged Meade County 1-0 at Brandenburg. That lone run was good enough for Eagle pitcher Jake Griffin who tossed a two-hit shutout at the host Green Wave.
Tuesday's was a strong pitching and defensive game for both squads as a trio of Meade County hurlers allowed Ohio County just one hit, a Kiah Gledhill single in the top of the sixth inning. But the crucial inning was the fourth, with Griffin drawing a leadoff walk and Phelps inserted as a courtesy runner.
A passed ball allowed Phelps to move to second and another on ball four to Gledhill resulted in Phelps on third and Gledhill on second. Johnson then flew deep enough to centerfield to score Phelps with the game-winner.
Griffin's complete game win included 10 strikeouts, four bases on balls, and one hit batsman.
