A former county employee accused of credit card fraud has been indicted by the Ohio County Grand Jury.
Rhonda Spencer, a former clerk in the county treasurer's office, was arrested after discrepancies with the county's credit cards were discovered. Spencer, 42, of Beaver Dam, was the only county employee in a position to misuse the county's credit cards.
According to the Ohio County Sheriff's Department (OCSD), Spencer later confessed to using the credit card, allegedly, for food purchases at Walmart and a camera at Best Buy.
As the investigation into the fraudulent use of county credit cards continued, it led to the discovery of thousands of missing dollars.
Detective Timothy Hatfield, with the OCSD, presented his investigation to the Grand Jury on April 3. The grand jury indicted Spencer April 12 on charges of abuse of public trust over $10,000 and fraudulent use of a credit card over $500.
Spencer was arrested on April 14 and taken to the Ohio County Detention Center with $25,000 cash bond. She was later released.
