The National Weather Service in Louisville has upgraded the  Freeze Watch, issued for Ohio County yesterday, to a Freeze Warning. The Freeze Warning will be in effect from 8 p.m. this evening until 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Temperatures late tonight and Wednesday morning will drop into the mid and upper 20s. A hard freeze is expected during this time along with areas of widespread frost. Temperatures will fall below freezing between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. and stay below freezing until an hour or two after daybreak Wednesday. The longest duration and coldest temperatures will affect the Bluegrass region. Spring vegetation could be damaged or killed by freezing temperatures and frost. Regional agricultural experts have indicated that the growing season has progressed far enough that a hard freeze would be impactful to spring vegetation. Additionally, widespread frost could damage outdoor plants if not covered or taken indoors. A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
