The Beaver Dam Police Department has added some new faces to its roster and hopes to add at least one more.

Over the last several months, the BDPD have hired Sergeant Chris Shephard, formerly of the Hartford Police Department and Officer Tracy Beatty, formerly of the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department.

Shephard joined the BDPD in late April and Beatty was hired by the Beaver Dam City Commission in a special-called meeting on July 25. Beatty was sworn in on Thursday, Aug. 1, and his first day on the job will be Sunday.

The BDPD had an open position after an officer resigned last month.

During Beatty’s swearing in ceremony, BDPD Chief Mike Allen said he was glad to have an officer with Beatty’s experience join his squad. Beatty was happy to have the opportunity and thanked both the Beaver Dam City Commission hiring him and Allen for recommending him. Beatty has 19 years of experience in law enforcement, all with the OCSD.

This won’t be the last addition to the BDPD as the Beaver Dam City Commission announced during the special-called July 25 meeting, they would accept applications for certified and non-certified officers. Allen said they were looking for a good candidate to send to the police academy for training to become a future officer of the BDPD. There was some discussion of the city commission hiring two new officers, but the decision won't be made until later in the year.
