The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a weather briefing assessing the threat for severe weather tomorrow. According to the NWS in Louisville, two periods of thunderstorms are expected tomorrow. The first round of thunderstorms will occur during the overnight hours tonight into Thursday morning. While the possibility for severe weather is low with this round of storms, heavy rain and lightning will be likely. The second round of thunderstorms will happen in the late afternoon and evening hours of Thursday. The possibility for damaging winds and isolated thunderstorms are a possibility with this second round of storms. The thunderstorms are expected to move out of the area around midnight tomorrow night.  Damaging winds with gusts of around 60 mph are expected Thursday night and because of the soggy ground, due to the snow and ice melting, a higher than normal number of trees and branches could come down. Along with the damaging winds, isolated tornadoes could be possible later Thursday afternoon and evening. Hail storms could also be a possibility. Localized flooding due to rain from the storms, combined with the melting snow and ice, could cause problems for some. The Storm Prediction Center has place Central Kentucky in a slight risk for severe weather Thursday with the primary threat being damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. The highest threat of severe weather will be between 5 p.m. Thursday evening and midnight Thursday night/Friday Morning. To view a PDF of the Louisville NWS weather briefing, click here.
