During the Beaver Dam City Commission meeting, the city commission approved a new employee driving policy and approved a motion to advertise for bids for sewer line repair.

— The Beaver Dam City Commission approved an driver’s license and record check policy for all city employees. The city will require copies of city employees' driver’s licenses as part of the new policy. The city will also check the employee's driving record. The copies of licenses and driver’s record checks will be done annually.

As part of the policy, if any employee who operates a city vehicle has their license suspended or taken away, they must notify city superintendent Larry Carter or Beaver Dam Fire Department Chief Tim Blair, if they are a volunteer firefighter.

The policy also puts restrictions on certain activities while driving, such as texting or talking on a cellphone.

Mayor Paul Sandefur said the new policy was something the city’s insurance company recommended to protect the city from liability.

Commissioner Sandy Robinson made a motion to accept the policy. Commissioner Keith Dale seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

During the September 9 meeting of the Beaver Dam City Commission, the commission received a priority list of the city’s sewer lines ranked from the worst to the best. During that meeting the commission approved a motion to turn over specs and bidding documents to the engineering firm GRW, Inc. and begin the bidding process for sewer repairs.

At the January meeting, Dale informed the commission it was ready to advertise for bids.

Dale told the commission if the city repairs the worst sewer lines on the priority list, the city should have all of its lines “in pretty good shape.” If the city is able to repair all the sewer lines on the list, then any infiltration into the city’s sewer system will primarily come from homeowner’s sewer lines, not the city’s. The city has a certain amount of money set aside for the repair of the sewer lines.

Dale estimates the repair work can be done in two or three months depending on the weather.

Commissioner Kevin Davis made a motion the city advertise for bids on sewer repair. Dale seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Dale hoped to advertise for bids by next month.
