With the forecast indicating a chance of up to one inch of snow across many of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 counties on Friday morning, crews are out pre-treating highways today, according to the KYTC. Ohio County is part of KYTC District 2.
The greatest chance of snow accumulation is across the northern counties of the district along the Ohio River. The snow is expected to hit overnight and trail off by about Noon on Friday.
Crews will be out spraying brine until about dark tonight. Motorists are advised to be alert for trucks and support vehicles involved in pre-treating efforts.
Brine is sprayed onto road surfaces where it dries. The resulting salt dust then remains dormant until it is activated by falling snow. The salt helps to keep roadways clear of snow and ice in the early hours of a winter weather event. It also keeps snow from sticking to the pavement surface, allowing the snow to be more easily plowed away after it accumulates.
Due to the expected arrival of snow in the early morning hours, limited time will allow crews to treat only “A” and “B” Snow Priority Routes for this event.
