Morris’ signing was witnessed by family members, teammates, friends, and media in OCHS’ Media Center. Morris — who also was a starter at quarterback on OCHS’ football team and at forward on the Eagle basketball squad this year — is the son of David Morris and Shannan Morris. Playing leftfield this season, Morris helped Bobby Wise’s team to a solid 21-11 record, batting .289 with an on-base percentage of .340. He scored 15 runs while driving in a dozen, and stole eight bases on ten attempts. His fielding percentage was a good .939, handling 31-of-33 chances without an error. When asked about his decision, Morris said had visited Berea’s campus and was impressed with “hometown feeling.” He said he was given a “good chance” to see significant outfield playing time as a freshman with Mountaineers. Todd Weaver’s baseball team finished with a 12-26 record for the ‘14-‘15 season, and graduates seven seniors including former OCHS standout catcher Jake Taylor. Morris also mentioned Berea’s reputation as one of the top 100 academic schools in the United States. He plans to pursue a pre-Physical Therapy program there. “I’d like to thank Coach Wise and all my high school coaches for helping me get this far,” Morris said. “And, of course, I’d like to thank my family for all their support.” When asked his feelings on the signing, Wise said, “I congratulate Nate on signing with Berea. I think he has the tools to be successful there.” Formerly an NAIA school, Berea College is currently transitioning into a NCAA Division III school and are not officially affiliated with any conference at this time.
