Eagles face Apollo in Third Region opener tomorrow

Ohio County drew Apollo as Monday’s first-round opponent in the Third Region Baseball Tournament. All four regional first-round games are slated for Monday, with Ohio County and Apollo scheduled to be that day’s second game, getting underway at 1 p.m. at Edmonson County High School’s ballpark in Brownsville. Bobby Wise’s Eagles enter the regional with a season mark of 21-10 after falling to Muhlenberg County 6-1 in Thursday’s 10th District finals. Ohio County has beaten six of the seven other teams in the tournament, including a 2-0 home win over Apollo in the third game of the season. The only team OCHS didn’t beat was Meade County, a team that downed the local boys 12-5 on March 23 after Ohio County had jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The complete tournament schedule: 5/25 — 10 a.m. — Grayson Co.(23-11) vs. Hancock Co.(11-21) 1 p.m. — Apollo(29-8) vs. Ohio Co.(21-10) 4 p.m. — Meade Co.(25-5) vs. Daviess Co.(22-12) 7 p.m. — Muhlenberg Co.(17-19) vs. Whitesville Trinity(17-15) 5/26 — 5 p.m.—upper bracket semifinals 7:45 p.m. — lower bracket semifinals 5/17 — 6 p.m. — championship Forecasts for the week indicate a high probability of rain, which could/would call for alteration of the announced schedule of games. *Note: Edmonson County High’s ball field is located behind Brownsville Elementary School.
