Caldwell County scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning Saturday to down Ohio County’s Lady Eagles 7-2 in a fast-pitch softball game at OCHS’ Russell Field. The loss capped a tough week for the Lady Eagles who dropped all five games they played.
Thursday night at home, the OCHS girls played a varsity doubleheader versus first McLean County and then Muhlenberg County—their 10th District foes.
McLean County took the first game by a final of 11-5, rapping out six extra-base hits in the process. Ohio County led 1-0 early in the game but then saw the Lady Cougars score 11 times in their fifth and sixth at-bats to take the win.
Sarah Cessna and Hannah Render each doubled and homered for the winners with Savanna DeYoung adding a home run and two singles.

Ohio County led Caldwell County 1-0 after one inning Saturday, but fell behind 2-1 in the fifth. Laiklynn Jackson’s double, followed by a sacrifice and
Madison Bennett’s single tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, forcing an extra inning.
But in that extra frame, the Lady Tigers came up with three hits and took advantage of three OCHS errors to score five times, and the Lady Eagles had no answer in their final at-bat. Haylee Jones led OCHS’ offense with three hits while Emma Staples and Isabella Meeks had two each for Caldwell County.
