At the Feb. 9 meeting of the Beaver Dam City Commission, Chief Mike Allen of the Beaver Dam Police Department (BDPD) presented the commission with the city’s crime statistics for 2014.In 2014, the BDPD opened 115 cases. Of those cases, 106, were closed with nine remaining open.For the year, the BDPD issued 414 citations with the bulk of those being for Expired/No Registration Plate (59), Seatbelts (54), Shoplifting (48) and Speeding (48). The department also issued 27 Domestic Violence and 23 DUI citations. The BDPD issued several miscellaneous citations, mostly for Theft By Deception (54), Alcohol Intoxication In Public (15) and Receiving Stolen Property (7). In addition to the citations, the BDPD served 118 warrants in 2014.For 2014, the BDPD issued 47 drug-related citations with 14 for Possession of Marijuana, 10 for Possession of a Controlled Substance and nine for RX/Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container.The BDPD worked a total of 163 accidents in 2014 with 150 being non-injury accidents and 13 being injury accidents. There were no fatalities due to car accident in Beaver Dam in 2014. The location of these accidents were parking lots (85), US 62 and 231 (60) and city streets (18).As a further breakdown of the accident numbers, between the Wal-Mart traffic light and McDonald’s there were 13 accidents with 10 being non-injury and three being injury accidents with no fatalities. In 2013, there were 18 accidents in this area, with 12 non injury, five with injury and one fatality.In total, the BDPD answered over 24,000 calls from Ohio County 911 Dispatch, including traffic stops.To view or download a PDF with a detailed breakdown of citations issued by the BDPD, click here.
