Man dies after being struck by OC school bus

An Owensboro man was killed yesterday after being struck by an Ohio County school bus coming home from a field trip. The Daviess County Sheriff's Department say Morris Stewart, 44, of Owensboro, walked out in front of a an Ohio County school bus on the Wendell Ford Expressway in Owensboro. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Daviess County Coroner. Authorities say the Stewart was riding in a car that had pulled over on the side of the road. He then got out of the car as it was still moving and walked into the road. The school bus, loaded with students from Beaver Dam Elementary, was coming back from a field trip to see the Nutcracker at the Riverpark Center. Witnesses said there was nothing the driver could do to avoid hitting the man. The students were never aware the bus hit the man and the bus was moved down the road a bit to shield them from the accident scene. No one on the school bus was injured.
