Dear Ohio County;
My name is Tommy Thompson, and for the past six terms I have had the honor to represent Ohio County in the state legislature. During that time I’ve worked hard to reflect your values and advocate for your priorities. Serving in leadership as House Majority Whip, I believe I provide a particularly strong voice for you.
I understand the needs of small business, in addition to my work as your state legislature, I also serve as President of Thompson Homes, Inc., in Owensboro. Serving on the House Banking & Insurance Committee I used my business background and experience to help shepherd small business legislation through the legislative process. The National Federation of Independent Business has described me as a champion for small business, saying that I have consistently “fought daily to protect the bottom line of small business in House District 14.”
I am focused on job creation, believing that by strengthening small business, they will grow and add employees. I know that keeping tax burdens low for Kentucky businesses allow them to grow and add revenue to the state’s bottom line to fund quality education for our children. I also strive to promote our coal industry, and defend it from Washington bureaucrats.
During these tough economic times I have proven my ability to work in a bi-partisan way to build support for legislation to boost economic development, advance education, tourism and growth in our region. Winning praise from both Democrats and Republicans alike, I work to get things done and strengthen our economy.
Being a small business owner, I understand the difficulty companies with fewer than 25 employees have providing health insurance for their workers. That’s why I supported the ICARE program to allow small companies to receive vouchers to help defray the cost of insurance premiums for their employees; with a goal of reducing the number of uninsured Kentuckians while allowing more small businesses to provide health insurance to their employees.
I have been married to my wife Judi for 37 years, we are the proud parents of Nick, Wes and Hunter. Judi and I attend St. Stephens Catholic Church, and I serve on the Board of Trustees for Brescia College in Owensboro. I have worked to be a strong and consistent defender of traditional family values.
I would greatly appreciate the privilege of continuing to be your spokesperson in our state capitol and I will never forget who I work for, you, the people of the 14th legislative district.
Sincerely,
Tommy Thompson
