Ohio County High’s Lady Eagle volleyball team downed McLean County 25-12, 25-22, and 25-24 Monday to advance to the championship of the 10th District Tournament. The 2014 10th District and Third Region Volleyball Tournaments are being played this year at the Ohio County High gym.
Monday’s three sets were all different in tone, with Ohio County dominating the first set behind the service of Calee Whittaker, the net play of Morgan Marksberry, and the ball-handling of Savanna Mattingly. But the second set was much closer, with the Lady Cougars leading until midway in the set, when the Lady Eagles took a small lead and managed to serve the set out.
The final set saw McLean County build a big early lead of eight points before OCHS began their comeback. The Lady Eagles finally caught up at 22-22 on an Allissa Wortham service turn that ended with Ohio County ahead 24-22. But the Lady Eagles failed to get the match point, and McLean County took advantage to tie the set at 24-all. A side out gave Ohio County the serve at 25-24 with the home team winning the point, and match.
Stat leaders for the Lady Eagles were: Mattingly (20 assists, 1 ace), Marksberry (16 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks), Whittaker (6 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist), Dant (6 kills), Ford (3 kills, 2 aces), Morse (2 kills, 1 block).
