The Ohio County Board of Education is now accepting applications for the open Fourth District School Board position.
In April of this year, Fourth District School Board member Matt Gilstrap resigned from the position after moving into another school district. It was thought the state would either appoint a replacement to serve the term or the position would be placed on the November ballot. It turns out both options were correct.
The Ohio County Board of Education will be accepting applications for the open Fourth District School Board position until July 1. If only one qualified applicant applies, the applicant will be appointed to the position by the Ohio County School Board. If two or more qualified applicants apply for the position, those names will be placed on the November ballot and residents of the Fourth District will decide who will replace Gilstrap. The person appointed to the position will serve until the November 2016 Election.
To qualify for the position, the applicant must be at least 24 years-old, a citizen of Kentucky for the last three years, a registered voter in the Fourth District, have a high school diploma or GED certificate, in compliance with the state's anti-nepotism law and cannot provide contract services for the school district.
Applications for the position are available at the Ohio County Board of Education Office at 315 East Union Street in Hartford or the Kentucky Department of Education. The Department of Education's phone number is (502) 564-4474.
All applications must be mailed to:
Commissioner of Education
1st Floor, Capital Plaza Tower 500 Mero Street Frankfort, KY 40601
All applications must be postmarked by July 1, 2014.
